Today we will be making Ukrainian dish called varenyky. The reason why we love varenyky is that it is not simply a dish but it truly is a cultural heritage which expresses all the vibes of Ukrainian and Slavic vibes. Varenyky are really treasure for Ukrainian cuisine and one should definitely try them at least once in their lives. We have made dishes of Slavic origins quite often, and we have to admit that Slavic cuisine is one of the most interesting, cozy and tastiest cuisines ever. The vibes of Ukrainian cuisine is that it gives you the full comfort of your home and it makes you feel comfortable. That is the reason why we love the Ukrainian cuisine so much.

So now let’s understand what ingredients we need for making the Ukrainian varenyky.

The ingredients.

For dough:

  • Flour of 5 cups, approximately
  • 100 grams of butter
  • ½ cups of water
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

For the filling:

  • 300 gram potatoes
  • 3 onions

The filling we are introducing you is made up potatoes, however, there are different types of feelings with cheese, with fruits, with mushrooms and with things you just can imagine of.

Now when you have got an idea about the ingredients, we shall definitely start making the varenyky.

The making.

You have to take a bowl for dough, add there the flour and the salt. Then you should add the butter and milk and mix so much with the dough until all the ingredients finally come together. Then you should knead the dough so much until it can stick. Then you have to set side for a few minutes. After that you have to knead again in order to make it smooth and then set aside again.

Meanwhile take the potatoes, wash them and then boil. Once they are boiled you have to unpeel them and then mash. When they are mashed, you have to fry the onions and add to the potatoes. 

After that you have to take the dough, put it on the clean table with smooth thin layer and take a small glass. By the help of the glass you have to shape small round shapes out of the dough and then put a spoon of the filling inside. Once the feeling is there, you have to make it a half moon shape, by folding the edges of dough. Once you have done this to all the dough and the filings, then you have to take a large bowl, add the varenyky into it and cook for about 5 minutes. Once the dough is not row, you can take them out of water.

Varenyky are usually eaten with sour cream and with black pepper if the filling is with potatoes. 

As you see varenyky quite a nice dish which will make you really full and I am sure that all of you will absolutely like it. The dish is not so difficult to make, but it is not easy also. So therefore you will need some skills to make the dish. When it comes to timing, then it will take about 1 hour to make varenyky. What about nutrition, then it is medium, but it makes you full quite early. 

Just try to make the Ukrainian varenyky and I am sure that you will just love it. Most of the people who make varenyky at least once in their lives, they make it again and again. So just try to make it and you will never regret doing it.
