We are just a day away from the Independence Day and one can sense the annual feeling of patriotism in the air. Now Display pictures have been replaced by tri-colors and national flag for next few days and annual quota of showing concern & love for the country will be over. Many will be proud of this achievement for next 12 months at least.
Just concluded Common Wealth Games 2014 has witnessed this so called patriotism in form of the numb support by people who which turned sports freak and football crazy, last month during FIFA World Cup 2014.
It’s not just about the sports or display picture, what hurts more is that most of the citizens of this country have least self realization of the self esteem, power and capabilities of nation and realization of self responsibility to contribute towards building the nation.
You don’t need to be Gandhi or Bhagat Singh; one can simply contribute with small individual contributions. For example avoid things like as spiting on roads, signal jumps, road rage, maintain civic sense etc and you will be contributing significantly.
Patriotism is not about covering our self in national colors but in thinking and acting upon positive changes. Yes, it is difficult to change others or to bring a big change all of a sudden but small individual efforts can surely bring big changes. With the hope for a better tomorrow I wish you all a happy Independence Day.
