If you are a first time pregnant, then, wow, you may have learnt so many things: what you should eat during the first trimester and after, what you should include into your healthy diet, which food you should avoid, which food has some special vitamins and which ones are nutritious. You may have also read a lot about breastfeeding, have taken into account all the important factors and have maybe even opened a special folder on your notebook, called “Breastfeeding diet” or “food while breastfeeding”. Whatever you did, those are all good: because as much you know, as this will be good for you and your child.

And now, you are here to discover another complete guide which will help you know the dos and don’ts of eating while breastfeeding.

Let us know start with the list of foods after eating and breastfeeding of which you may have noticed signs of discomfort to your baby.

  • Isn’t your baby sleeping well and you are continually complaining about the bad sleep? Most probably you should count the number of cups that you are drinking coffee. Remember that your baby’s immune system is not as strong as yours, so try to shorten or completely refuse the drinking of the coffee or anything which contains caffeine.
  • Your baby is hardly taking the milk you are giving? Check your diet to see if you haven’t included anything spicy there or garlic, maybe? Having those ingredients in your milk, may disturb your child to take the milk because of its taste.
  • Your baby is showing some signs of fussiness? Check your diet again to see if you haven’t included too much of citrus there. While orange is usually recommended as one of the best post pregnancy fruits, you should make sure you are not overeating citrus, which may sometimes bring to fussiness.
  • Alcohol – while we don’t argue on totally refusing alcohol, however suggest you to minimize it, so that it won’t pass to your child through milk

Let us now pass to all the dos that you can afford yourself while breastfeeding.

  • The first point always includes fruits, right? The funny thing here is that orange gets to places together (both the do and don’t). Orange is one of the fruits that is highly recommended, due to the vitamins that it contains. Other fruits that should be included into your diet can be: apples, melons, plums and peaches.
  • Vegetables are the second in this list. Make sure you are having the daily dose of broccoli, cucumber or cauliflower, which are again full of vitamins and will be a healthy food both for you and your child.
  • Drink as much water and juice and milk as you can. This will help you get more energy and stay hydrated.

One of the most important “to do’s that you will have during the breastfeeding is eating with a schedule: 3 times a day. As you are breastfeeding you are now spending more calories a day, then you were used to, that is why you have to regain the part of them to be able to continue breastfeeding. Make a schedule of your eating, choose the appropriate time and even write down the food for each day. This will help you eat in a regular way.

Take into account that breakfast is one of the most important parts of your day and get prepared to it in a more special way. We don’t even talk about the try of missing it.

If you also wish to lose a weight which you have gained during the pregnancy you may also go on with exercising. Some simple movements, or special yoga maybe a good start for that. However, don’t take it too hard, in order to escape further difficulties. Having some light exercises 2 or 3 times a week may be enough.

And lastly, take care of you and your child, because happiness starts with healthy eating, thus healthy living.
