LEONARDO DICAPRIO - CopyWhat a night! A night to remember in the history of the Oscars. As the world knows by now, Leonardo DiCaprio won the Oscar for the very first time despite having given phenomenal performances over the years and being nominated for six times previously, for the movie ‘The Revenant’ directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.! The crowd applauded giving him a standing ovation. He was so gracious in accepting this award and I think, this is what humility is all about!! The entire Universe was waiting for this day. He took time to thank everyone his co-star, friend, Tom Hardy, Parents, Martin Scorsese for taking him through this splendid cinematic experience. Best Friend Kate Winslet got emotional after his win. Truly Heart-warming to watch. Leonardo, a dedicated environmentalist also did not forget to mention about the climate change. “Climate change is real” It is Happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating” He said.

But the highlight of the Oscars was Comedian Chris Rock’s hosting. His opening monologue was all directed towards systematic racism in the Hollywood industry. He said “We want opportunity” “we want black actors to get same opportunities.” He spared none. He took digs at many. And also at the blacks who missed this award show…It was not like the regular Oscars held till date…Everything that was flawed was mended!

In this past year, the internet was flooded with memes of DiCaprio’s inability to win an Oscar. Finally, he’s there. Together Inarritu and DiCaprio have created a master piece- The Revenant.  Inarritu wanted shoot for this movie in natural light, in extreme conditions. Revenant is a story where DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a man injured by a bear attack, who is robbed by his companion (played by Tom Hardy,) is left for death. He doesn’t die, but survives the attack, he is on a mission, a story of vengeance against men who wronged him. DiCaprio was so much into the Revenant that he ended up eating a Bison’s liver!!! For a Vegetarian to eat a Bison’s liver in order to get the scene perfect … That’s hardcore!! Reckless abandon! “It took a large portion of our lives and as a result, we have a great film to look back on for years to come.” DiCaprio said of the Revenant.

It all started with James Cameron’s epic movie ‘Titanic’ (1997), where he played Jack, who became a cynosure of all eyes. Titanic got him international recognition. He has received critical acclaim for his craft in a wide range of film genres. His subsequent films were-  The man in the Iron Mask (1998), Catch me if you can, His association with Martin Scorsese started with historical drama – ‘Gangs of New York’ (2002). He has movies like ‘Blood Diamond’ (2006), The departed (2006), Psychological thrillerShutter Island’ (2010), The brilliant ‘Inception’ (2010), ‘Django Unchained’ (2012), Period Romance/Drama The Great Gatsby, to his credit. And loved him as Jordan Belfort in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
