Men’s fashion has taken an altogether a different turn in 21st century, we have moved over from those mundane suits and lifeless Men’s dressing patterns. Fashion Designers all over the world are experimenting with new age designs, styling and playing with myriad colours. From formal suits to casual shirts everything about menswear has undergone a change. Right from the 1800’s –The Victorian age to 2000’s – The Hip-Hop Age, Men’s Fashion has had an entire new facelift.
Suits have been a part of our tradition, it was once considered to be a status symbol. In 1900’s men wore ‘Three piece Suits’ which consisted of A Sack Coat with matching waist coat and Trousers. In 1950’s Men strutted around in conservative Grey suits and minimal accessories –A Hat, Pocket Square, Cuban Cigars and Yeah Of course Martini. Yes, it was the time when ‘James Bond’ was born, who gave us the whole new meaning of suiting up. The times when Sean Connery and Roger Moore lit up the silver screen with the Bond Swag! British men and their impeccable style! England had the most influence on American menswear. Though 1980’s witnessed a little over the top dressing, Businessmen took power dressing very seriously. Suits, Suspenders and bold colours dominated the men’s fashion all over. The 1990’s had the worst trend of baggy business casuals, uglier suits, Bad Haircuts…Let’s just forget the 90’s please!!
Hippie Culture was pretty much in vogue in 70’s. Men wore a lot of Tie dye shirts, Bell Bottom jeans, flared pants with lots of accessories like head band, neckpieces, rings etc. A pretty much expressive dressing was seen around the world during 1960’s to 1970’s with plethora of styles. Now getting back to 2000’s – Hip Hop fever caught up with the youth like a wild fire. Baggy and long T-shirts, Baggy jeans (Low –Rise jeans) ,distressed jeans (still a trending) multi-coloured sneakers/converse Beanies, spiky/coloured hair, (gold) chains, diamond studs and body tattoos, made every lad look like a Rapper. While the youth went hip-hop the elderly or business class people loved their European Slim fit tailored suits. Men sported popped up collars, large button down shirts, Patch work denim jackets (two toned), Cargo Pants, studded belts etc were a thing of 2000’s.
There’s a whole new meaning to Men’s fashion now, instead of just sticking only to one form of dressing, Men have been very upfront and innovative when it comes to fashion and styling. Past 3-4 years it’s been all about “Making a Statement”. Men’s style is on a different level today. Trends are created everyday for both men and women which become a rage among the youth especially. There are few iconic men who are the trendsetters and who have inspired generations like Kurt Cobain, Marlon Brando, Hedi Slimane, Andre3000 ,David Beckham And currently , Kanye West and Olivier Rousteing (BALMAIN) are doing a great job of creating off beat designs and setting trends internationally. As you could see, many celebrities at the recent MET Gala 2016 wore BALMAIN COUTURE.
