Introduction: I have written about many Indian curries but never about an Indian bread. So I decided that today I will be writing about one the Indian breads I ate recently. Some of the very famous Indian breads are roti( made from wheat),Kulcha(made from all-purpose flour) naan( made from all-purpose flour) and many others. Naan is of various kinds- stuffed naan, methi naan, pudina naan, garlic naan. I will be writing about garlic naan today. Naan is a flat bread, similar to pita bread which is oven baked unlike other Indian breads like chapati, phulka. Every Indian restaurant would have a huge oven called tandoor which is set on high flame to make this bread. It is quite difficult to make these kind of breads without a tandoor. I will be writing about how to make naan on a flat pan at home easily. If Your not the one who enjoys eating in a restaurant but loves to cook your own food then this one is for you.

Garlic Naan:

Preparation Time: 120 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

  • Half cup of wheat flour
  • Four to five cloves of minced garlic
  • Two green chilly finely chopped
  • Ten to twelve coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • One table spoon of oil.
  • One table spoon of salted butter

How to make Garlic Naan:

  • Heat the flat pan. Start heating the pan before preparing the dough as the pan needs to very hot to make this bread.
  • Soak Eight grams of dry active yeast in one cup of warm water. Let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes until its frothy.
  • Once done add three table spoon of milk to it and one beaten egg and one fouth cup of sugar and mix well. Now add Four cups of all-purpose flour and half cup of wheat flour.  Add on tea spoon of salt. Knead it into a soft dough. Keep the dough aside, cover it with a foil or a damp cloth for one hour until the dough doubles in its size.
  • Once done makes small balls of two inches of this dough and place it aside. Use a rolling pin and flatten it into small circles which are evenly thick. Place it under the damp cloth for one more minute.
  • Now take some oil add minced garlic and chopped green chillies to the oil and smear it on the flattened dough. Place this on the hot pan.
  • Cook one side of the bread. Once done roll it over, cook for few more seconds and hold the other side directly to the fire until well cooked.
  • Once evenly cooked on all sides smear one side of the bread with butter and sprinkle finely chopped coriander leaves on the bread and serve hot.

Naan can be best served with spicy Indian curries like Paneer tikka masala, butter chicken etc. Please refer some of the recipes I have written like Palak paneer, Aloo matar to make them at home along with this bread.
