Fashion styling/Wardrobe styling is one of the many concepts that fall under the study of FASHION. It is one of the most popular emerging professions in the fashion world globally. Fashion styling is way too from fashion designing. A fashion stylist selects the clothing and accessories for the clients i.e. celebrities, models or other public figures to enhance their image, help manage fashion Photoshoots for leading labels, music videos, for making public and red carpet appearances, product and movie promotions. Fashion stylists are often a part of a creative team collaborating with the designer, Photographer, make-up artist, hairstylist and the director to put together a particular look or theme for a project. They are the people who push the celebrities to make it to the best dressed list.
A stylist’s job varies greatly depending on the assignment. Basically it could be classified into Editorial styling (styling for Photoshoots, Magazines),Brand Consultancy and Celebrity styling.
Editorial Styling: This involves conceptualizing and organizing the photos for the pages in fashion magazines. Here you work closely with Photographers, art directors, make-up artists and fashion editors. Working for album covers, Selecting what to ,wear how to accessories, deciding what will go well with the theme of the Photoshoot.
Brand consultancy :when it comes to brand endorsement ads ,stylists need to play well with colours in order to promote the brand or product in a desired manner. Stylists are supposed to follow the instructions or go according to the theme desired by the art director or the brand owner.
Celebrity styling : A celebrity stylist has got many roles to play ,right from styling his/her client for the red carpet events to commercial shoots, shopping ,salon trips, fashion consultant etc. To name a few. Celebrities hire stylists for their daily styling ,they take their stylists’ advice for making a new style statement every time they step out they help clients look flattering and set new trends. Many celebrity stylists receive free products and couture samples and even get invited for elite parties and some even have the privilege of attending the runway shows. Celebrity stylists may directly collaborate with the designers to create custom clothing for clients or shoots.
Styling is all about ‘How to wear it’, it’s all about creating a look by using designs created by others. The concept of styling is gaining immense importance. The fashion and style game in Bollywood has changed for good now. As celebrities and models have become more conscious of they look and are more willing to experiment with newer looks. This Vogue India’s Fashion Director, has styled for the Dhoom series (remember how we all loved Hrithik and Ash’s look in Dhoom2). She has changed Deepika Padukone’s look entirely since Cocktail. 2) RHEA KAPOOR : It all runs in the family they say, Rhea Kapoor and her sister Sonam Kapoor have taken this industry by storm.Their love for fashion was noticed when Sonam’s movie Aisha released in 2010.This sister duo have a penchant for high end couture. Rhea makes regular trips to Paris fashion week. Anamika Khanna Couture, Sunita Kapoor jewellery, Elie Saab and Dolce and Gabbana are the favourite mainstays. 3) TANYA GHAVRI : Tanya Ghavri started off as an assistant to Pernia Qureshi. Later graduated from Parsons School of Design ,New York.She then interned at Vogue to build her career in fashion industry. Tanya Ghavri has styled many of the A-listers of Bollywood like Madhuri Dixit (Jhalak Dikhla Jaa)Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Shraddha Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Frieda Pinto. 4) ALLIA AL RUFAI : She started off as a stylist for Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie Fashion. Then was a chief stylist and fashion editor at Harpers Bazaar India. Her cult and minimalistic way of styling makes her unique from others. Her work reflects lot of comfort and ease. She has dressed up actresses like Nargis Fakhri, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone. She uses Stuff from Gauri and Nainika, Monisha Jaising to Fendi and Dior.
