Armenian winter soup: Khash

As we have already mentioned in our articles, not only the taste of the food is what matters, but also its qualities. It should not only taste good but be healthy for our body as well. We can suggest thousands of options for fast food, especially when it comes to Armenian cuisine, which is full of junk food, but on the other hand, we can suggest many and many healthy dishes. The dish we are going to tell about in our article is a very extraordinary one. To be frank, not everyone likes it, because it is very special and usually brutal and strong men eat this dish. It is known to be a winter soup and it is really a heave soup, after eating you will have the feeling as if you had just swallowed a crocodile. However it is really health, for those who have back problem and troubles connected with bones. It is called Khash. Khash is eaten only in cold season because it is too heavy for summer time.

Note that the ingredients are very few in number:

It is a soup which requires bovine shanks. 

Water

The making

Firstly you take a big bowl and add the water there. You have to cook the bovine shanks so much until the skin falls out of them. It takes about 2 or 3 hours. You use the water of it as the main ingredient for the dish. Some parts of them can be fallen out and you will serve them in the soup with small torn peace. After you feel and check that the meat is cooked, then the dish is ready.

While boiling the water you do not season it, you do not add even salt. 

This is one of the strangest recipes one could ever hear of, I know but it is extremely simple to make and is very tasty. But again we have to note that not every person likes it, it is too specific and some are scared of this soup. It is eaten with hands. You have to take the Armenian bread “lavash”, make them into small peace, leave them into the soup for a few minutes and eat them with hands. Usually people add garlic in it as well, while eating. 

This soup helps us to feel warm in cold Armenian winters and it is never eaten alone. For this soup you have to have a group by your side. 

We have already warned and you have to keep in mind that this is a very unique dish and not every person can eat this. The eating of this soup is like a special Armenian meditation. 

The making of khash is very difficult; the timing of the making is also rather long, because to be able to make the meat you will have to spend much time, so it will take you more than 3 hours to have it done. The nutrition quality is high, as it produces some elements which are good for our bones and you get the feeling of being full very soon.
