Have you ever heard of Sri Lankan coconut Roti? I guess the answer for most of the readers is negative. Actually the Sri Lankan cuisine is exotic for nearly all of us. Especially for those who represent the Western culture.  So this Sri Lankan dish having quite exotic name is actually bread. This is probably the first bread we are going to make together. So it really will be interesting to find out what it is like. 

The Sri Lankan cuisine is usually rich in rice, beef and fish. However the coconut roti stands out in Sri Lankan cuisine also. So here is the list of ingredients we need to make the dish. 

The ingredients

3 cups of flour, all purpose

1 cup of cool water

1 cup of freshly grated coconut

Salt

Canola oil

There ingredients we need for the classic version of the bread. However, there is another version of the dish, which is made with chili and onion also.

So for that version we need to add to our ingredient list 

¼ cups of onions, which should be perfectly chopped

¼ cups of chilies, again finely chopped

The making

The very first thing you need to do is to sift the flour and then prepare the coconut.  Then add coconut, salt and oil to flour. Mix properly. Then little by little add flour, so that you can form dough. The dough must be not too firm, and not too liquid.

If you want to make the chili and onion version, then you should cut the ingredients and add them into the dough. Then you should knead the dough of middle thickness and place it into the oven. The temperature should be medium. 

There is not precise timing to keep it in oven. Just check permanently to make sure you do not burn it, but also make sure that it is precisely cooked. 

We recommend the version with onion and chili. That version is richer in different tastes and definitely can be good option to eat with cheese. 

The bread is extremely delicious in warm state. You can eat it with cheese and you can add even sour cream on it, and eat that way.

If you want to eat soup, that you can bake this bread and eat the soup with this one, instead of buying from shops.

When it comes to cooking level then we have to note, that it is really easy to make. Especially when most of the breads as we know is quite hard to make.
