Wondered Egyptian? Yes I know. Not many of us have ever heard about Egyptian food. We all know about Italian or French cuisine, but we are kind of unaware that there are cuisines less talked about, however definitely worth talking about, such as the Egyptian one. The Egyptian food is full of rice, corn, is usually greasy and oily, the portions are big, and meals usually include meat. However, Egyptian cuisine  is much more interesting. You can find delicious desserts here.

Desserts are everyone’s absolutely favorite and they are essential during coffee breaks. I know desserts are not healthy, but at least they help the mood and keep us cheerful. That is the reason why we will introduce the amazing Egyptian dessert known as Asabe Zeinab.

So what are the ingredients of Asabe Zeinab?

Here is the list:

1 and a half cup of flour

Fine semolina

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 tablespoon of yeast

1 tablespoon of salt

2 tablespoon of ghee

Lukewarm water, 2 tablespoon

Corn oil in order to fry

And for the last sugar syrup, in order to dip

The ingredients can be not so easy to find, but put a little bit effort and you will make it for sure.

So after finding all the ingredients we need to have by our sides the very first thing we have to do is to mix flour, fine semolina, sugar, the instant yeast and salt in one big bowl.

Then we have to add the melted and then cooled ghee and slowly add water into the mass we have.

Mix the mass you have so much until the mass becomes one and smooth, and then take it out, knead so as all the ingredients come together properly.

Take a peace from dough and make small shapes out of it. The shapes must be small and can remind of dates.  You have to make like pipes from the dough but in really small size. After you have made all the dough into the small pipes it is time to leave them 15 minutes to rest.

Then after we left them to rest, we have to deeply fry them into hot oil so much until they turn nice red or golden color. Make syrup with sugar and hot water. You have to add much sugar into warm water and mix so much until the sugar is melted. Then you have to cool the syrup and dip the dough into the syrup.

This is a really beautiful dish and an amazing dessert to start the dessert with. The flawless taste makes the coffee or tea taste nicer and will give some Western vibes to your table.

The dish may seem not so sweet at first. If the sweetness is not enough for you, you can add more sugar and eat that way. In that case the dessert will remind you of the Russian dessert called khvorost, in Russian: Хворост. The latter is a similar kind of dessert made exceptionally by dough and seasoned with sugar. The dishes are very similar but the Russian version is drier than the Egyptian one. I hope you will enjoy your dish and be more interested in Egyptian food.
