The Google promoted android based mobile developers as also apple are foraying into wearable technology. Whether that is eyewear or smart watches technology from sci-fi films are actually coming into reality.
The apple Watch
First unveiled in September 2014 and then to be subsequently released in April 2015, the apple watch as it is called is thingamajig for the techie. Yes, it shows the time as high precision watch but more importantly as unpaired or paired device to your iPhone does a whole lot more. A combination of touch, a crown button and a sleek one allow you to navigate through the various “glances” by tap, swipe or scroll. The glances are the previews to apps, and tapping on them launches the full app. In terms of being a communication device, sharing a heart beat or chatting is a feature where it scores over others in this category. A battery life of 18 hours means it can be used throughout the day, and look wise it is a fashion statement.
Captain Spock calling
The features that make this a device from Captain Spock are the varied things it lets you do in the house. From opening a smart lock of the door to your house to controlling smart thermostats in the house make it a device of convenience. As a device to monitor fitness it has its own app as also supports third party apps like the Nike plus to count your calories and help keep track of your daily workouts. One of the most differentiating features is, of course, its ability to let you make payments via apple pay. The NFC-based mobile wallet allows you to store your credit/debit card details on your Passbook, and then allow a payment by holding the device in front of an NFC reader and authorizing the payment through the secure Touch ID.
Apple scores
The apple seems to be scoring over the field on few key elements. The ability to hook on a Wi-Fi network means that it can function in the home even without a pairing to your phone, making it leapfrog over the other competitors. Apple pay is a significant factor differentiating this apple offering. But all in all the apple watch seems to be an amalgamation of other smart watches putting together a best set of features in a platform making tap, swipe, scroll and talk to use your smart watch an experience.
